Our History

Bondo Technical Training Institute is situated within Bondo Township about 5km along Bondo Misori Road. Strategically placed within the Western region of Nyanza and fast emerging as a region for development, Bondo Technical has already emerged as an academic county with an established University and other tertiary institutions.

Bondo Technical Training Institute was constructed with funds from the Government of Kenya (GOK). During the initial stages of its construction, it was mentored by the Siaya Institute of Technology. The Board of Siaya Institute of Technology partially handed over the management of the institution to the principal on 19/3/2015. The institution is managed by the Board of Governors who held their inaugural meeting on 3rd July 2015.

Bondo Technical Training Institute opened its doors for the first bunch of 56 students in May 2015. The number is set to rise three-fold with the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment that has been installed in the workshops and laboratories.

There are currently four departments in the institution:

  1. Building Technology and Civil Engineering
  2. Electrical and Electronics
  3. Business department
  4. ICT department
  5. Liberal department
  6. Applied Sciences

The institute offers both part-time and full-time programs. Plans are underway to adopt virtual learning. The part-time programs are conducted between 4 pm – 7 pm from Monday to Friday and 8 am – 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays while the full-time programs run from 8 am – 6 pm from Monday through to Friday.

The programs are provided for the following level, Artisan, Craft, and Diploma. The examining bodies are KNEC, CBET, CDACC, KASNEB, City and Guilds, and ABE among others.

Mandate

The Bondo technical training Institute Board of Governors was formally established in accordance with the TVET legal order 2013. It is one of the 56 Technical Training Institutes in the Republic of Kenya.

Bondo Technical Training Institute is registered under the Education Act Cap 211 Section 15 (2) Registration Certificate number TVETA/PUBLIC/RC/0007/2014.

Bondo technical training institute is mandated to offer at courses at Certificate and Diploma levels in various disciplines.

The technical training institute mainly produces middle-level human resources that are well equipped with technical and business skills required in the industry, informal sector, and service sectors. The institution produces technicians and technologists who are expected to play a major role in the attainment of the national objective of industrialization of Kenya by the year 2030.
